Monday Morning In Crescent City

I was on vacation in Sedona Arizona when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. I don't usually watch TV but with one right in my room I was glued to it. I sat and cried as I watched in horror and disbelief. I met some beautiful people in that magical city, they took me in, made me feel welcome and will forever be called Friend. I wrote this song for Lisa Sins, Rick Hart, and John Steffis. We had brunch at Arnauds Restaurant and enjoyed the fabulous trio. My friend Jimmy Kramer asked me to sing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow" with the band, and I shyly agreed. When the room went silent, I looked over at my friends who all had tears in their eyes. I will always remember how I felt that day. Thanks for encouraging me to sing- and this song is for you!
I saw a painted lady dancing with a clown
A kid was wailing cause his ice cream hit the ground
Dixieland music was parading through the streets
Shrimp and crawfish cooking The smell was just like heaven
When I walked the streets of New Orleans town

A fortuneteller looked right at me as I drifted by
A second line of Saints Go Marching caught my eye
I love the friendly Southern people who took me in
I sang that night on Bourbon Street With a band playing oh so sweet
I sang a song for Jimmy as we cried

Katrina brought a mighty wind The river flooded and the levy crashed in
Sent people fleeing for miles around
I saw it on the T.V. Then it really hit me
What happened Monday morning in Crescent City

Oh I can’t believe it happened this a way
I heard tell of people dying every day
Bullets were flying and I heard they struck men down
I was horrified while watching when would help be coming
I saw Big Easy people get washed away

I say rebuild don’t let “our lady” Miss Orleans down
Won’t be the same if I can’t walk down old canal
I hope I didn’t miss my ride in Mardi Gras
Colorful and fancy with everybody dancing
Throwing pretty beads to people who showed their smile

Katrina brought a mighty wind The river flooded and the levy crashed in
Sent people fleeing for miles around
I saw it on the T.V. Then it really hit me
